About the Rhode Island Avid Users Group

Welcome to the Rhode Island Avid User Group!

The Rhode Island Avid Users Group, RIAVIDUG, is a user community of Avid professionals, educators, students and enthusiasts from the Rhode Island and nearby area who meet to share editing experiences and learn new skills relating to Avid products, solutions and technology.

The RIAVIDUG is an off-shoot of the Boston Avid Users Group. Sandra Luzzi, RIAVIDUG's founder, was a member of the steering committee that formed the Boston user group and a Vice-President and Web Developer for that group before embarking on the journey to form an Avid user group in her own home state of Rhode Island. The RIAVIDUG is modeled after Sandra's work and experience with the Boston group and she owes much gratitute to the original board members of the BAVUG for their support and friendship as well as the great folks at Avid Technology!

Avid's breakthrough contributions to digital film and video production have encouraged a worldwide community of users of which RIAVIDUG is a member. The user group provides opportunities for members to remain on the cutting edge of Avid's editing technology. Guest speakers share their expertise by showcasing new and existing solutions, completed projects and works in progress. Meetings include time for members' questions and also provide a networking opportunity for those attending. Avid representatives are usually present at most meetings to answer questions and provide members with information about products and solutions. Food and beverages are available at meetings which are provided by our generous sponsors.

The RIAVIDUG meetings are open to anyone with an interest in digital media, nonlinear editing, motion graphics, filmmaking and multimedia production using Avid and related solutions. The meetings are free, but you should register prior to the meeting as some venues have limited capacity. A small contribution is taken for product raffles.

At each meeting, industry leaders and enthusiasts will present different aspects of digital production and post production. Members are given the opportunity to ask questions related to the presentations as well as general Avid questions during the "Ask the Experts" section of the meeting. The RIAVIDUG meetings are an ideal place to network with other in the production industry and to share editing experiences.

The Rhode Island Avid User Group was started in October of 2007. The meetings are held quarterly at present, with a goal of meeting more frequently as the group grows.
